Fighting Fit
©Robert Reeder
To pursue a Warrior’s path, fitness of body, mind and spirit must be first attained, and then maintained.
To this end, I recommend this physical regimen; consult a physician before embarking on this (or any) exercise program, and if you are out of shape to begin with, take this slowly, beginning with small increments and working towards these levels gradually. Do not be discouraged if you cannot do all of these right away; this regimen is adapted from that used by the US Navy Seals. On the other hand, as a wussy little pencil-pushing navigator, my own daily regimen when I was on active duty was pretty close to this, so it’s hardly impossible.
Daily,
before breakfast, run five miles.
In the
evening, before supper, do 100 sit-ups and 50 push-ups.
At night,
before going to bed, do one kata followed by one 30 minute set of hatha-yoga
Weekly, at least, swim five miles (40 laps of a 220 meter pool).
